A 27-year-old woman is facing a number of charges in light of a recent head-on collision on New Year’s Eve that sent a man to hospital with critical injuries. Florida Highway Patrol allege that the woman veered into the lane of oncoming traffic and collided with a pickup truck driven by the man who sustained life-threatening injuries. Police records state the woman appeared to be under the influence and smelled of marijuana. She was arrested and charged with DUI and DUI property damage/injury to another person.

Police say the woman fared poorly on sobriety exercises performed at the scene. Authorities also say the accused was combative with EMS employees who attended the scene. She did not suffer any major injuries and was checked out at a hospital. However, the driver of the pickup was airlifted to a medical center. The woman told police she veered into the other lane because an animal must have jumped onto the road in front of her vehicle.

There was a warrant out on the accused for not appearing in court on a previous charge of drug paraphernalia possession. The woman was administered a breath test several hours post crash that did not detect alcohol in her blood. She was held on a $1,500 bond.

Getting charged with DUI in Florida is serious, and if found guilty, a person may face hefty repercussions that could impact various aspects of his or her life. Those accused must be prepared to fight the charges aggressively. Obtaining legal advice and guidance may be the best way of doing that.
