After allegedly hitting the pole, the driver the purportedly backed up and struck the pole again. Afterward, he went into the convenience store, according to witnesses. It was unclear how authorities became alerted to the situation.

At some point, an officer approached the young man and reportedly smelled alcohol. The officer also indicated that the man was having balance problems. The man refused to submit to a breath test, but there were purportedly empty beer bottles and an open container of whiskey inside the vehicle. As a result, the young man was taken into custody on multiple DUI-related charges.
